Qualcomm Technologies unveiled its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 mobile platform during the Snapdragon Summit 2026 held in Maui on September 22-24. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 platform sets a new benchmark for mobile computing that propels smartphones into the Agentic AI era, offering faster device performance capabilities. The platform features Qualcomm’s newest self-designed Oryon cores, enabling 13% faster CPU performance and 37% greater efficiency compared to the previous generation.

Qualcomm has dominated the global Android premium smartphone SoC market, although its share is expected to decline in 2026. According to Counterpoint Research’s[Global Smartphone SoC Forecast Tracker by Vendor and Node, 2026](https://counterpointresearch.com/en/reports/global-smartphone-soc-shipments-forecast-by-vendor-q2-2026 "https://counterpointresearch.com/en/reports/global-smartphone-soc-shipments-forecast-by-vendor-q2-2026"), Qualcomm’s share in premium Android SoC shipments is expected to decline from 58% in 2025 to 50% in 2026. This decline will largely be driven by Samsung’s increased use of its in-house Exynos 2600 SoC in the Galaxy S26 series. In addition, rising BoM costs are likely to put some pressure on flagship smartphone demand among major Chinese OEMs, compared with the previous generation. Against this backdrop, we expect shipments of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series to remain broadly flat to slightly lower YoY in 2026 compared with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

However, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series is expected to account for around 18% of Snapdragon’s flagship series shipments (flagship series include Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Snapdragon 8 Elite, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6)in its launch year, up from 17% for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in 2025. This increase in share, despite relatively flat to slightly lower shipments, reflects the expected decline in Qualcomm’s flagship SoC shipments in 2026. At the same time, the ASP of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is expected to be double-digit percentage higher than that of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which should help offset some of the impact of lower shipment volumes on Qualcomm’s revenue in 2026.
